The Old House of Huang Family is the most well preserved and best representation of historical building in Yongan. In the late 19th Century, Huang Family settled in this inner sea area and built their homeland here. The builder of this old house, Mr. Huang Tuan, spent a fortune to invite the well-known master painter of his time, Mr. Pan Cun-yuan to decorate his "new house." Master pieces of artwork such as "the Refusal of Yang Zan to a Bribe," "Su Wu Herding Sheep," "Deep Loyalty to Repay the Country," "Wizard of Fortune," "Filial was Touched by Heaven," "The Lucky Star," "Spring in the East Fence," and "The Exotic" with the implication of loyalty, filial piety, and blessing were created to hand down generation after generation. The House of Huang Family had been preserved well after the four generati- ons of Huang Jhu, Huang R-Ciing, and Hunag Jiian-yuan and his brothers.
In 1962, the color of the old house required the re-painting work, in particular, that of wqcMteffwall, due to the wearing of time; Mr. Huang R-Ciing, thus, invited the son of Mr. Pan Cun-yuan, Mr. Pan Li-shui to take over the re-modeling work. Both Huang families and the father and the son of Master Pan presented the beauty of traditional culture and the significant meaning of family heritage to present the cherished values.
In traditional life, family house, including ancestral shrine and old family house, did not only serve the living function, but also provide the education function of family heritage and the philosophies handed down by ancestors. In both cultural and craft aspects, the Old House of Huang Family has presented the beauty of education and it is, therefore, the most valuable cultural heritage in Yongan.
